I read Maya Angelou’s work some years ago: Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Diiie. I’ve seen her on television programs, even in person a few years ago at the Landmark in Richmond, Va. She is so beautiful inside and out. Her tone of voice and polished words keep her audience on edge wondering what this brave woman will say next. My daughter Tina often compares my writing to hers; I’m that good. My dream is to someday meet her in person and just sit down and talk after some of her famous steamed  chicken and “Hurt Me” banana pudding. I can't imagine what this world would be like without her words, if her silence had not been broken. She is truly an amazing woman, and I thank her for motivating me at age 54 to take charge of my destiny and move forward into publishing my first book of poetry in the coming months.
