There are two purposes for Comments in the Encyclopedia of Arkansas History & Culture. Comments can either add information to aid in the understanding of the entry or add information that provides an alternate interpretation of the historical record.

The report is that they "left Arkansas" Jan. 1 and arrived at Louisville, KY, on Jan 3. Even if they had left from a boarding site along the Arkansas  border with the Mississippi River, this couldn't have happened in two days. Even more doubtful is the statement that the exiles had traveled from Little Rock to Louisville "overnight." The trip would have been down the Arkansas River to its mouth and then up the Mississippi to the Ohio River's mouth and up it to Louisville, a very long trip. Steamboats at that time and even later ones didn't go that fast.
