Logic strengthens history regarding the origin of ancient trails. The first trails were animal trails. Where the deer and the buffalo found it easiest to walk, the Indians followed. Not only was it relatively easier to walk where animals had already trampled the small brush and packed the earth to a hard path, but the likelihood of finding game for supper was enhanced. The footpaths became horse trails before they later developed into wagon roads.
