This history of Arkansas is not unique. Sundowns went by other names in other places. "No Nigger" towns have populated America since the Civil War.
This ethnic cleansing started peaking around the 1890s and reached an awful crescendo right after World War I. Attacks on black settlements became the race war in America between 1900 and 1923. Aside from the brutal hatred of racism and stupidity from whites, some of these attacks were land grabs—whites stealing the property of defenseless blacks who were not protected by the local, racist police or authorities. This horrible theft and murder added to the terrible conditions that black Americans had to attempt to survive in this brutal, pathetic nation at the time.
