My parents once owned the "Granny Davis" house, which is still standing just east of the monument. McMaster's Grocery was once located next to it, and an electrical site surrounded by a tall chainlink fence is still there. My father told me that either the City of Manila or the State of Arkansas built the house for Davis's mother. My grandmother bought it in 1951, and my parents bought it in 1956. It is still as it was when Mrs. Davis lived there except for the addition of a bathroom built on the back porch and closets built between the two bedrooms. My father, Auddie Ware, was caretaker of the park for many years in the 1950s and 1960s.
