There are two purposes for Comments in the Encyclopedia of Arkansas History & Culture. Comments can either add information to aid in the understanding of the entry or add information that provides an alternate interpretation of the historical record.

Information included in this section is not fact checked by the Encyclopedia staff. The author of the Comment is entirely responsible for its content.

This entry is offensive. Not only is it inaccurate in detail, it is also borders more on propaganda than it does historical portrayal of the events. Most historians consider April 15th to be the first battle of Poison Spring, where a much more important skirmish occurred than the virtually uncontested occupation of Camden toward dark that day. The use of three modern revisionist texts and one post-war Union text do not provide adequate factual detail from which to compose a worthy entry into the Encyclopedia worth reading. Shame on you. Try using the OR and perhaps Ed Bearss's book as sources.
